I find birth and the process of labor so fascinating because of how intricate and perfected each-little-step to bringing a baby into the world-actually is. It really is under rated and I feel, not given the chance a lot of the time because of the image today’s society creates (a fearful one). And after having a naturally delivery where I felt everything from the very beginning to the very end when my little bird was born, I am even more so entranced with nature and the power it holds.

Mary Catherine Birth and Family Arts (via Green Midwife Community Birth Services) posted this today and I think it’s so beautiful and so accurate:

“People often ask what contractions feel like–it’s hard to explain. If I could show you what they look like, it might be something like this. So beautiful, so powerful.”

“It keeps startling me that at the beginning of this 21st century,

at a time when we can . . . explore the depths of the seas

and build an international space station, we have not been

able to make childbirth safe for all women around the world.

…  This is one of the greatest social causes of our time.”

Thoraya Obaid, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund1

Please, it only takes a few minutes to learn the latest about The Maternal Health Care Crisis that is happening RIGHT NOW.

Why are people not catching on to something that is so clear. If you are a parent to be- PLEASE educate yourself and make your self aware of the reality as well as your birth options. Need somewhere to start? Go here. This is where i started many years ago when i began educating myself (years later i was able to use the wonderful Cara as my own midwife).

Birth in the USA

I found this on Blue’s birth doula’s blog (thats a mouthful). She’s an amazing photographer, childbirth educator and doula extraordinaire. We sure would have had a rough time achieving our healthy/natural/drug free birth plan without her thats for sure (and another story)!

These stats are interesting and also not surprising. I wonder what the statistics are here in the Czech Republic?
